Ernst Schowengerdt House National Historic Place

Built in 1866 for Ernst Schowengerdt and his wife Elesebet (Hukreden), this residence was continuously owned and occupied by them or their descendants until the death of Margaret Carol Schowengerdt, their last surviving grandchild, in 2002. At that time ownership of the House and contents, along with the associated real estate, was transferred to the Warren County Historical Society. The House was designated as a National Historic Place by the Department of Interior in 1980 and is now open to visitors by appointment.
